Holly Stokes
Prime Minister’s Scholarship for Asia, Reimagining India Study Tour
Introduction
My name is Holly Stokes, and I live in Hamilton, Waikato. I have recently completed my undergraduate Arts degree at the University of Waikato, majoring in Psychology and Sociology.
I applied for Reimagining India Study Tour with IndoGenius because I want to grow my independence and get to know myself better. I hope to gain greater knowledge about other cultures and experience what it is like to be in a community other than my own.
For a career in psychology, it is vital to have cultural competency and cultural sensitivity. This programme will help me grow my awareness and acceptance, break down cultural barriers, and learn to respect differences in opinions, values and attitudes of people in a different culture.
After my return to NZ in late February, I will continue working at Recreate NZ, where I coordinate programmes for youth with mild to moderate intellectual disabilities. I look forward to bringing my new knowledge to the workplace and teaching others.
