What an incredible first week in Mumbai! It’s hard to describe the mix of emotions I’ve experienced so far. I have never quite felt the way I did on Tuesday on the way to my internship for the first time. The nerves and excitement that rushed through my body were incredible – being that much out of my comfort zone was an amazing feeling.
As I set off on this journey, I had three clear goals in mind – to step out of my comfort zone, immerse myself in a new culture, and grow professionally by contributing to an industry I never dreamed I’d get to be part of! These goals have already guided me through my first week, helping me approach each experience with openness and curiosity.
The first challenge wasn’t even my internship … it was getting there. Coming from a city with a population of 1.6 million to one with over 21 million has been a significant adjustment. Public transport here is an adventure in itself, but after a week, I feel like I’m starting to get the hang of it.
I am interning at Rising Sun Films, a company in Bollywood, and so far has exceeded all expectations. The team has been incredibly welcoming, answering my endless questions with patience and warmth. Their openness has encouraged me to be even more curious, and it’s been amazing to see my understanding of the industry expand so quickly. I feel like I am making meaningful contributions and offering suggestions that are being positively received.
Working in the Bollywood industry (something I never imagined) has been surreal. It’s a vibrant, fast-paced industry, and being part of it feels like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. The work is challenging yet rewarding, and I’m learning so much about the intricacies of this creative and dynamic field!
