My Exchange at Nanyang Technological University

My 4 months at NTU for exchange have been pretty awesome, thanks to the great support from the 360 exchange program. They’ve been super helpful in every way, making everything smoother for me.

When I first got to NTU, I was blown away by how big and modern the campus is. The buildings are cool, and the whole place looks fantastic. The place I stayed at was okay, but using the aircon was a bit pricey. Despite that, the campus and the surroundings made up for it.

The orientation they had for us was really helpful. It got me up to speed quickly on everything I needed to know about the place and the people.

Classes at NTU are good, but they pack a lot in, so you really need to be on top of your time management. The country itself is beautiful, and the people are friendly. Plus, living here is cheaper than back in Auckland.

I got into playing badminton for fun, and I totally recommend it. It’s a great way to have a good time and stay active.

Life on campus is super convenient. There are shops everywhere, and everything is easy to get to. The main challenge for me has been keeping up with all the coursework.

But the best part of my exchange has been meeting so many cool people and getting a taste of a completely different culture. It’s been a blast.

For future students coming here, my advice is to respect the Asian culture in Singapore. And when you’re talking to your professors, just call them “prof” instead of “sir” or “madam.” It’s the way things are done here. Overall, my exchange has been a mix of hard work, fun, and making new friends.

Q&A

What were some of the highlights of the academic experience at your host university?

Tutorials and lectures are helpful. Professors are easy to approach.

Would you recommend any particular activity/activities unique to your host country or university?

Join clubs. They are interesting, peers are kind, too.

What are your top 3 tips for future students attending your host university or going on exchange to your host country?

1. Do not lose your campus card.

2. Tour around the campus before the class starts. The campuses are huge, and it is easy to get lost.

3. Use prof instead of sir/madam.

How much did you budget for your exchange? Was this enough? Were there any lessons learned that would help future students budget for their own exchange?

2000 usd. Not enough. Eat at the canteen. They are the cheapest option you could find.

What are your most significant takeaways from your experience abroad?

Be kind and mindful of Asian cultures.

Final Comments

Go to NTU; it is definitely worth the exchange.
