My Exchange at Fudan University

I went to Fudan University for an exchange last semester.

I discovered the 360 International Exchange program through my university’s international office, which provided comprehensive information and guidance. I went to a presentation given by previous students. Their descriptions attracted me, so I decided to have an exchange experience.

Accommodation varied but generally met expectations, and the host university’s orientation was beneficial in navigating the campus and understanding cultural nuances. The courses and teaching methods at the host university were diverse, offering a unique academic experience.

Exploring the host city and country was a highlight, with distinct cultural elements and landscapes. The cost of living was generally comparable to Auckland, although specifics depended on the location.

Engaging in extracurricular activities, such as clubs and sports, enriched my experience, and campus life offered a vibrant community. Trying local cuisine added to the cultural immersion, though preferences varied. I’m really into local Chinese food, which is very distinctive.

Highlights included travel adventures, cultural exchanges, and forming lasting connections. Challenges included overcoming language barriers and adjusting to different educational systems.

Advice for prospective students: Embrace the unknown, actively participate in cultural activities, and plan financially for unforeseen expenses. Overall, the exchange program is a transformative journey worth undertaking.
