India: Crafting Confidence and Clarity

It is with a heavy heart that I write this final reflective blog for the Prime Ministers Scholarship to Asia 2025. This trip exceeded every expectation, dismantled western biases I didn’t know I had and reinvented my relationship with both myself and the world.

I am overwhelmed with gratitude and a deep sense of growth. India, with its chaotic beauty and profound traditions, challenged me in ways I never could have anticipated. From navigating the bustling streets of Mumbai to swimming in the holy water of the Ganges, I learned so many new skills, cultural practices, and life lessons. One of the most prominent takeaways from my time abroad is the importance of seeking discomfort and keeping an open mind. Whether it was dealing with language barriers, adjusting to unfamiliar foods, or embracing cultural norms that were completely new to me, I came to understand that real growth happens when we step into discomfort. It’s easy to stay in what’s familiar, but India taught me that true personal development arises when we challenge ourselves to adapt, learn, and open our hearts to new perspectives.

This journey also solidified my relationship with myself and my career ambitions in ways I never expected. Before coming to India, I was riddled with self-doubt. I questioned whether I had chosen the right degree, whether university was the best path for me, and if I was truly on the right track in life. However, in India, I found clarity.

Working at Anubhuti Trust helped me realize that I had indeed chosen the right path. I thrive in spaces that ignite my passion, and my time in India reaffirmed my commitment to pursuing a career in international development and human rights. I now feel more confident than ever in my career goals and the path I’ve chosen, knowing that this is where I’m meant to be.

Beyond my career aspirations, this trip gave me a newfound confidence in myself.  Every day was a test of my ability to adapt, trust my instincts, and make decisions in unfamiliar situations. There was something incredibly empowering about overcoming these challenges, and through it all, I learned to trust myself more. I gained a deeper sense of self-reliance and independence, and I now believe more than ever that I am capable of handling whatever life throws my way.

None of this would have been possible without the support and encouragement I received from others. A huge thank you to the teams at 360 International, Education New Zealand, and the Global Career Centre for making this life-changing experience possible. Your dedication to empowering students like myself has made all the difference, and I will forever be grateful for your guidance and support throughout this journey. Kia Kaha.
