The Power of Saying Yes

Embracing the Unexpected in India

As my time in Mumbai draws to a close, I can’t help but reflect on how much has changed simply because I chose to say yes – to new people, new experiences, and even moments of discomfort. When I first arrived, Mumbai felt unfamiliar, overwhelming, and fast-paced. Now, it feels like a second home. From the energy of film sets to the warmth of the people, every moment has left a lasting imprint. I have gained new skills, knowledge, and a deep appreciation for India’s incredible culture, generosity, and spirit. None of this would have been possible without the people who welcomed me so openly, sharing their world with me in ways I never expected

Jaisalmer: Saying Yes to Adventure

One of the most unforgettable experiences was our trip to Jaisalmer, a city that felt like stepping into another world. Every moment was an adventure – riding camels across golden sand dunes, exploring centuries-old forts, and immersing ourselves in the city’s rich history. But beyond the landscapes, it was the people who made it special.

Shakti, our host, welcomed us like family, ensuring we didn’t just see Jaisalmer – we felt it. Because we said yes to his invitations, we experienced the city in ways we never could have planned: horseback riding at sunrise, learning local traditions, and even joining a wedding procession in the streets, a completely unexpected but beautiful moment of connection. India has a way of turning strangers into friends; that night was proof of it.

HK Studios: Saying Yes to Creativity

Back in Mumbai, my time at HK Studios has been nothing short of inspiring. The work itself – writing scripts, shaping narratives, and sitting in on sound design sessions – has deepened my love for storytelling. But beyond the work, it’s the people who have made this experience so transformative.

From day one, the team welcomed me in, encouraging me to share ideas, take creative risks, and embrace challenges. Saying yes to new opportunities here pushed me outside my comfort zone, and in return, I’ve learned more than I ever imagined.

Lessons to Take Home

If there’s one thing this journey has taught me, it’s the magic that happens when you seek discomfort and say yes – to new people, cultures, and experiences. Whether in Jaisalmer or Mumbai, I’ve seen firsthand how welcoming and inclusive people here are. Hospitality in India isn’t just a tradition – it’s a way of life, and I’ve been so grateful to be embraced by it.

As I prepare to return to New Zealand, I take with me a renewed perspective – one that values connection, embraces creativity and understands that the best experiences come from saying yes to the unknown. India has shown me that the most incredible things can happen when you step outside your comfort zone. With less than a week left, I’m embracing every moment, eager to see what unforgettable moments these final days in India will bring.
