Kia Ora all, long time no talk! Every fortnight when I sit down and prepare to write my next blog post, I can’t help but feel like the girl that wrote the last entry is a complete stranger. That is how truly transformative my time in India has been. The personal and professional development I am experiencing is unparalleled.
A key turning point since last time I wrote in, is that I finally had the opportunity to leave Mumbai and travel domestically within India! Last weekend a few members of our cohort had the privilege of travelling to Rajasthan for an extended weekend getaway.
These few days spent in Jaisalmer were a transformative experience that deeply shifted my perspective on the world. Nestled in the heart of the Thar Desert, the township offers a rare glimpse into rural life in India, one that is both timeless and captivating. Stepping away from the bustling urban sprawl, I was immediately struck by the slower pace of life and the close-knit, community-driven atmosphere that defines the region.
What stood out the most was the extraordinary warmth and hospitality of the locals. Their genuine kindness, eagerness to share stories, and open-hearted nature made me feel not like a tourist, but like an honored guest. It was a humbling reminder of the importance of human connection, especially in a world that often feels rushed and impersonal.
The fort, with its ancient sandstone walls and intricate carvings, seemed to tell tales of centuries gone by, and the vibrant history of Jaisalmer came alive with each step I took through its narrow alleys. The animals, too, added to the charm — from the street dogs who seemed to roam with purpose to the majestic camels that dominated the desert landscape.
A particularly special moment was ticking an item off my “30 under 30” bucket list by riding a camel in the vast desert. This weekend reminded me of the beauty of simplicity, the value of patience, and the joy of embracing new experiences. It was a journey that not only expanded my horizons but also deepened my connection to both the land and its people.
