Settling in
From the commute to interacting with locals, I finally feel like I am settling in! My work is about roughly a 20 minute walk away, it used to feel like an impossible task at first – with rickshaws and cars around every corner, but I am getting used to it and enjoying my surroundings. South Mumbai has a lot of old colonial buildings that look super aesthetic during a sunset. Here is a picture of a wall on Dockyard Road on my way back from work:

My visit to the Bombay High Court
Built in 1862, the High Court in Mumbai is an architectural marvel, it stands out and is absolutely massive. I felt like I was in a small town when I first went in. It is teeming with lawyers, their clients and judges, all moving with urgency. My colleagues say that this High Court follows the strictest of procedures, mandating all lawyers wear black and white, and a gown accompanied with a neckband if they are representing a client, Otherwise, they will not be allowed to enter a hearing.

With thousands of pending cases, lawyers would enter and exit hearing rooms at will, hoping their case will be picked up and they can represent their client. Otherwise, you will find them at the Canteen or at the Bombay Bar Association with their fellow colleagues.

And more
Working in Mumbai means you meet people from all walks of life. Work culture is very different here, depending on their roles in society, people interact very differently. I find it fascinating to speak to people who have lived and experienced a life completely different to mine. I would suggest always keeping an open mind and being understanding, like how people share food and what people expect from you. Also, always try food regardless of how it looks, you will be surprised by how it tastes! Like this Aloo Tikki Chaat, I thought it would taste milky but the spices gave it a tangy flavour that I will never forget.
