Some readers may be confused when reading here: why should I talk about travelling on campus specifically? Believe me, it’s a really essential part of your CUHK experience.
As we know (or Google knows), CUHK is situated on a mountain. Sometimes, if your accommodation is at the foot of the mountain and your classroom is on the top, it is tiring to walk to. Therefore, I will choose to take the on-campus bus to go everywhere. The bus station is easy to find, near each accommodation and college. There are 10 (not sure! I haven’t taken them all) bus lines before 18:50 from Monday to Saturday. You can take the N line to other places from Mon to Sat from 19:00 to 23:30. On Sunday, there is only the H line available from 8:20 to 23:20. If you miss the last school bus, you can also walk to your accommodation or take a taxi at the beginning you want to come back.
What about going outside? It is really convenient to take the subway (train) in CUHK. CUHK has its MTR station named University (大學) near the school gate. I often use Google Maps to find my way in Hong Kong. Only East Railway (東鐵線) passes University station, which means that it is necessary to transfer subway lines if you want to go to some popular tourist destinations, such as Victoria Harbour, Central, or Causeway Bay. Meanwhile, most of my friends would choose to go to mainland China on holidays. The nearest city and most convenient destination to visit is Shenzhen. You can arrive here by taking the subway from University station to Lo Wu or Lok Ma Chau stations. It should be noted that you may need to apply for a visa to go to China Mainland. Furthermore, Guangzhou is also easy to visit by taking the high-speed trains. The two cities will enable you to experience two different lifestyle in Guangdong, and help you to understand Chinese culture more deeply. (These two photos are taken in Yau Ma Tei station and Tin Hau station. Hong Kong’s subway stations have their unique decoration style!)
I have to say the school bus is a bit complicated, so I can’t completely introduce it in this blog. If you decide to come, I would suggest asking the staff and students before taking the bus. They are warm-hearted and really helpful. You can also download an app named “CU Bus” to search the bus line on campus. This application is in both English and Chinese.
That’s all of this sharing! If you like it, please give me likes or comments. Thanks for your reading. You can also ask me questions in the comment area.
I will introduce foods and canteens in my next post. Why not this time? Because there are more than 25 canteens on campus and I still haven’t gone to them all yet.
